Makeup Shaming Should Stop

June 09, 2016

This makeup shaming on social media or even out of social media is getting out of hand. If you don't know what makeup shaming is, basically it's people putting other people down, specifically girls for wearing makeup. Honestly, I see nothing wrong with wearing a lot of makeup I mean it's the coolest thing ever. It's art for your face. I really look up to girls who can perfect that winged eyeliner. I've seen numerous men shaming women and how they are automatically seen as fake because they put makeup on.
I've also seen this guy who commented on a before and after photo of a gorgeous girl saying "This is why I don't trust girls". Wow so this is now your new measuring tool on whether you'll trust her or not? haha shame on you! And when girls don't put makeup on, people will point out every flaw on their face, "Ew she has a pimple", "Her eyebrows don't look nice", "She looks pale", "She's ugly". People will always have something to say, they don't run out of irrelevant things to say. This is not the sad part of the story yet because there are also girls who shame others because of makeup. Hey, we should be on the same team right? I've heard A LOT of girls like my cousins and friends saying "She's just pretty because she has makeup on". Are you even hearing yourself, girl? Specially when other girls proudly say that they don't wear makeup uhm okay? That doesn't make you any better than those girls who wear it. Get over it. Also, you should never feel like you're not pretty just because you don't wear makeup and others do. Girls wear makeup not because they are insecure but because it's actually fun. Believe it or not but there are people who find enjoyment on putting it on so who are you to shame her for doing something that makes her happy. As recurrent as it may sound but girls wear makeup not to impress anyone (specially not for boys) but for themselves ONLY. If a girl feels beautiful with makeup on then let her put on whatever she likes. If a girl feels beautiful without it, that's also perfectly fine. At the end of the day no one is perfect. I, myself is not afraid to go barefaced. I actually just started putting makeup on this year and still learning the hang of it. It takes a lot of practice to achieve that eyebrows on fleek lol. With or without makeup, we should start loving what God gave us. No one will ever be in the right position to tell a person what type of beauty is right for anyone. Like wearing makeup? Then wear it. Not like wearing makeup? Then don't. Women should be able to do what they want.

  1. I agree with you! Even if I wear relatively little makeup I always get comments like "Blaaah, you look so cheap with all that makeup" or "eeew, so fake!" when I have a bright lipstick or something and I think that it is so sad that people actually feel the need to hate on us girls if we choose to express ourselves or are interested in cosmetics. -.- x

  7. Makeup is a form of expression. Plain & simple. People should express themselves however they see fit, especially in ways that don't hurt other people. :]

  9. Beautiful post!

I personally don't wear make up a lot but obsess over them and I find no point in make up shaming. It's actually a shame that people actually do it.

  10. This article is so great! So much truth. I don't tend to wear makeup, I just feel like I don't want to go through the hassle of washing it off, etc and try to be comfortable with my face without it. But there's nothing wrong with it as long as you're not harming your skin. For outings, I'm the first to pull my bright lipstick out and make a bold statement, make-up is cool, its art, people who aren't happy with themselves are best at shaming others and pin-pointing "flaws", they need to look inside and reflect on themselves first before shaming others

    1. That's right, people should look at themselves first before saying such things to others. People need to understand that we all have different choices and it happens that some girls choose to wear makeup and there's nothing wrong with that.
