How To Achieve Your #FeedGoals

February 13, 2016

If you don't know what Instgram is (have you been living under a rock?!), it is basically an app where you take photos and upload it then see how many people like it. I know there are people who really don't care about their feed (and it's totally fine), but for some, it is a way of expressing their creativity and makes an impression to other people. First of all, I'm no expert in taking photos especially, having a well curated Instagram feed but from experience, I guess I can give you some tips and tricks on how to have a better Instagram feed.

1. Take good quality photos

In order to take good quality photos, you need to use a good camera. Not specifically DSLR cameras of course, phone cameras will do. If the raw photo is crappy, it will still turn out crappy no matter how you edit the photo or put tons of filter. As a result, your feed will be crappy. Never trust on editing alone.

2. Shoot photos in a good lighting

Your photos will surely turn out great if it has enough lighting. Natural lighting is the better way to go, using flash would be just a second option for me. The secret to a good quality photo is good lighting. Yes you can edit the brightness but like I said, it will turn out crappy.

3. Edit your photos

Editing is fun, experiment with brightness, contrast, and saturation and filters too! It could enhance your photos and make it extra amazing. You don't need to be expert in this, there are a lot of editing apps that are so easy to use. I think VSCO cam is the most widely used photo editing app (I use it too!) because you can choose a variety of filters that can suit your photo and there are also tools where you can adjust the brightness, contrast, etc. But please take it easy on editing. Don't over edit, it can actually destroy the quality of your photos.

4. Check out other Instagrammers

There are A LOT of people who have such a beautiful Instagram feed. Follow them and make them an inspiration in taking your photos. But DON'T copy their style, just make them an inspiration. It's so nice to see such a varied news feed where just a few scroll BAM you're instantly inspired.

5. Find inspiration

Instagram alone is a great source of inspiration. When I see photos that I like, I screenshot it and try to re-do it my style. Find your pegs!

6. Maintain a theme

When posting an image, think about how it will look like together with your other photos. Look at your feed as a big picture and not separate ones. Your photos should have consistent element to tie them together. Personally, I don't follow a theme for my Instagram because I can't seem to maintain it and I don't wanna be bothered if I take a photo and get frustrated because it doesn't match my theme. This tip is somewhat optional.

7. Open your eyes with things to capture

You should always be ready to capture those "instagram worthy" things! Sometimes, those simple moments like your coffee in the morning or walks at the park could turn out to be a really nice photo so keep an eye for those simple moments. It doesn't have to be about glamour all the time.

  3. These are really great tips, Rachel! :) As much as I wanted to maintain a ~theme~ for my instagram, I felt like I can't really bother. Hehe. I wanna spare myself from the pressure on following certain things, although I must admit, it really is pretty! Hehe:)
